Garden Features
Water in the garden
A water source is essential to enable garden maintenance, so an outside tap is a basic need in your garden.
Beyond that you may want to install an automatic garden watering system or irrigation, useful if you leave your home and garden for long holidays.
Choosing a hidden spot for a water butt is another good idea for sustainable gardening and if it cannot be disguised, let me decorate the butt and make a feature of it.
A garden water feature or pond
I have been building garden ponds and water features, ranging from waterfalls to fountains, for many years. These can be blended seamlessly into your garden design adding grace and tranquillity to bring your outside space to life
Garden sheds and summer houses.
A shed, cabin or other garden structure is often essential for garden storage but may not always enhance a garden, whereas a summer house can be an attractive addition.
By including a veranda for seating in the sun or shade the structure can become a garden room.
Pergolas, arches, and garden trellis
A pergola or loggia covered in climbing plants can be a relaxing haven out of the sun. An arch, covered in a climbing plant, over steps leading from one level to another also create variety and interest in the garden. Shade can also be created from garden umbrellas and garden sails.
Garden Furniture and features
Your choice of garden furniture is equally important nowadays as landscape gardening has changed and external spaces are being described as garden rooms or outdoor extensions.
You may decide on traditional garden furniture in natural wood or colours that blend in with the garden (such as green).
Alternatively, you may opt for a contemporary modern feel and a very modern garden design with geometric areas where bright colours are specifically used.
Sculpture can add personality to a garden design, please see some of my designs on the page headed sculpture,
Terracotta Pots and garden containers.
Spanish or Italian terracotta pots are favourite as they are frost proof and mature with character in your garden. This said, there is now a growing range of metal and plastic garden containers and the right shrub in the right container can make all the difference. Again my knowledge of the containers available can save you making a costly mistake.
