Wisdom comes through experience
Garden types
Our gardening work has tended to be based in the boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham and designs in these urban landscapes have included courtyard gardens, roof gardens and vertical gardens; many of our clients wanting contemporary garden layouts or a Victorian garden.
Others, particularly with large gardens in Kent and Surrey, want a less formal outdoor space, so we are also adept at cottage gardens and Mediterranean landscaping.
Garden redesign
We are happy to survey your garden, listen to your ideas and provide you with advice on how to plan a garden, we can then prepare a garden design and then once you are happy we can begin the hard-landscaping and building up the structure of your outdoor space.
You may want to divide it, creating garden-rooms (spaces within the overall space) using screens, hedges, fences, walls, trellises or even arches.
Garden features to consider
There are a multitude of considerations when designing a garden and our gardeners are more than happy to give you ideas, advice, help and to build as many of these into the landscape plans:
Hard Landscaping
After the garden design stage, but before our landscapers can commence any walls, paths or structural elements of your garden we need to agree on the materials to be used in building height, depth and division into the landscape. Is the walling or are the garden beds to be made from bricks or stone, will paving be in cobbles, pebbles, stone or slate, do you want wooden railway sleepers to create a more robust dramatic feel.
Around the soft landscaping, planting and lawns how what will border edging look like, do you want a patio, or even a wooden deck.
Patios and wooden decking
If you have decided on a decking or patio area for outdoor seating or furniture, then how will you soften this with planting, will you use planters, pots, tubs, containers or troughs or maybe incorporate sunken or raised beds? Do you want to cover the garden seating area with a canopy, gazebo, pergola or some kind of sail or awning?
Water gardening
If you want to stimulate the senses and introduce biodiversity in the garden a great way is to build a pond. A wildlife pond will introduce frogs, toads, newts to it and dragonflies in the summer. (no fish in a wildlife pond) A formal pond with fountains or waterfalls or running water can include choice lilies and a variety of fish, you could even go for stepping stones or a bridge.
Soft landscaping or planting
Whether you want a makeover of your front or back garden, the lawns and the horticulture will always have the biggest impact and we will test your soil and the light available and advise on the shrubs, trees, plants, flowers and even bulbs. We are conscious that many clients are very busy and will want a low maintenance garden.
Garden storage
Whether you have garden equipment to store or want a Garden room as a gym, office or summer house, you may want to choose from the many huts, cabins, and sheds available. If you are a keen gardener, into propagating plants and potting on, then a greenhouse and a compost heap is a must.
Edible Kitchen gardens
Have you thought of incorporating a kitchen garden? Growing your own veg enables you to enjoy home-grown organic vegetables, free from chemicals, with increased minerals at a fraction of their retail price.
If you have room then fruit trees and bushes can produce abundant crops for many years, or if you have a small garden then why not include a herb garden or try companion planting
Bringing your contemporary garden to life
A touch of luxury can be achieved with lighting using the vast array of solar lamps and lights now available and an irrigation system is certainly a time saver in the garden. If you have a blank edifice then you may want to try wall art, garden art or what about sourcing or commissioning a piece of garden sculpture.
